The Persian Wars

The Greco-Persian Wars started in 499 BCE and ended in 449 BCE. Its roots began earlier though, when Cyrus the Great annexed Ionia. In 499 the Greek cities in Asia Minor rebelled and began a series of conflicts between multiple city-states in Ancient Greece and The Persian Empire. Notable battles include The Battle of Marathon, Thermopylae and Salamis.
